RESEARCH PROJECTS: 20 YEARS BUILDING KNOWLEDGE
There was not until the nineties when there was a great outbreak of archeological research in Cordova thanks, in part, to pioneering projects such as “Urban Archaeology in Cordova” and “Form Urbis Corduba. Logistical and ideological aspects of a Roman city “. Both led by Ms. Pilar León Alonso, whose conclusions were presented at the Colloquium “Colonia Patricia Corduba” and published in Colonia Patricia Corduba: an archaeological reflection (LEÓN, 1996).
Subsequently, with Dr. Desiderio Vaquerizo as head of the Archaeology area, the Research Group HUM-236 “Archaeology as documentary basis of Historical Interpretation” was created. Its main purpose is to promote the knowledge of the city of Cordova, understood as unique and from a diachronic perspective: From its protohistorical past to present, without neglecting the formation nor the reversion of the results of the investigation to the society and its surroundings; Everything has been shaped through the concession and execution of a series of systematic research projects that made Grupo Sísifo (Group “Sisyphus”) a reference in the national panorama of academic Archaeology:
